Effective April 2026
Clarity is built around a single technical commitment: the things that make it personal never leave your device.
What stays on your phone
The transcript of every voice session, the patterns Clarity derives across days, your weekly summaries, and your local memory cache — every one of these is stored exclusively in a SQLite database on your device. We never copy them anywhere else. If you uninstall Clarity, they're gone.
What we do on our servers
We route the audio of a single voice session to OpenAI's Realtime API for transcription and analysis, generate one stateless response from a fixed system prompt, and forget. The audio is held only for the duration of the request and then deleted. We never store the transcript on our side.
We hold a minimal account record (your email, a hashed password, and your active subscription state) so we can restore your account if you reinstall Clarity on a new device. That's it. The server side carries no journal data about you.
What we never do
We do not train AI on your journal. Your voice, your transcript, your patterns — none of it is used to train any model, ours or anyone else's. Our on-device models are fixed and versioned; updates ship as new app versions, never as silent retrains.
We do not sell your data. We do not advertise to you. We do not share your journal with third parties, including law enforcement requests for data we don't have.
Your controls
You can export your entire journal as plain Markdown at any time, from inside the app. You can delete your account at any time, which wipes the local database and the small server account record. Both actions are reversible only if you've explicitly chosen the optional encrypted iCloud backup.
